This interdisciplinary classroom unit was designed for middle and high school art and computer science students. In the project students make their own data visualization technology by constructing data responsive sculptural lanterns that interact with the environment in a public space. Students learn about how to program electronics to collect, transmit, and visualize data while exploring how paper form and techniques can be combined with the data visualization to tell a story. This unit is aligned to both NCA and CSTA standards. Oracle and NSF acknowledgment
